As an American, I am outraged at my government for not pressuring Israel into a cease-fire. Yes, Hezbollah screwed up initially but the brute forces the IDF has used it inexcusable. Last night, Israel bombed a residential building that was shelter refuges in Qana. Thus far they have pulled out 60 bodies from the ruble. The picture above depicts the carnage of children hit.
Of course Israel claims that there were rockets being launched from the area, but where in Israel or Lebanon are weapons not being launched? While Lebanon truly wants a cease fire, they cannot stop till Israel does. Their government can not sit by idle while being attacked by foreign invaders (imagine the U.S not doing anything after 9/11). However, Israel will not stop until there is a guarantee that Hezbollah will be disarmed, and that Syria and Iran cease any type of support. It boils down to arms.
How about an immediate cease fire and then there be an exchange of Hezbollah weapons for prisoners captured by Israel along with the removal of Israeli soldiers in Lebanon? How about international peace forces guarding a demilitarized border between Israel and Lebanon? What if all the money going into the war was used diverted to a single charity that was overseen by both governments for the rebuilding of the countries, so that the animosity would be lessened? What if the world agreed on the borders of Israel and if any group or nation attacked it, there would be a unified voice against the aggressor (and vice versa for an Israeli aggression)?
Sitting by and watching as hundreds of civilians get killed, is this the best the world can do?
